QUARTER ACRE

Quarter Acre is the renaming of an existing tenancy and is evocative of the natural spirit the client wishes to imbue in the new space. The cafe was designed to be able to provide the feeling as if the natural environment had been welcomed inside with a palette of plants, wood and terracotta. Planter boxes are integrated throughout the café, with terracotta screens further softening the environment. The windows are a focal point in the design and concept of the interior, harmonising the geometry of the existing space with the large arches centred on the entry door and circulation mat marked in natural terracotta tiles. The existing concrete structural wall is utilised and brings the flora and creeping fig into relief and adds solidity to the design.

  • A long rectangular plant box was installed along the side of the café, and a small garden was created by planting a variety of indoor plants. The botanical sensation of the space is visible in the colour scheme and the organic shapes which form the timber front bar, back bar wall, the linear hanging lights and glossy mint coloured tiles. Mirrors add depth and dynamism to the bar and the integrated terracotta screen blocks provide a unique shelving system and rhythm.
