Barkly Homestead, hailed as 'the first and last hotel' in the Northern Territory of Australia, underwent a budget-conscious renovation to revitalise this remote outpost for decades to come.
The homestead building, serving as the centrepiece, was enhanced with a modern interpretation of the traditional verandah, and a new roof extended the dining space while preserving the homestead’s characteristic veneer.
An outdoor beer garden, featuring contemporary structures and colonnades for sun protection, complements the indoor dining space.
Drawing inspiration from the cattle trucks that regularly visit the truck stop, diagonal brace framing echoes throughout, alongside a retrofitted carrier that serves as a planting frame and terraced seating
