SCHOFIELD & CO

Goondiwindi has a history of strong well defined street edges and corners which is exemplified by the Victoria Hotel on the opposite corner of the site. The Hotels continuous colonnade defines the street providing shade with the upper verandah creating scale along with the marker of the tower. By pushing the building out to the street edge the scale of the street has a better proportion and relatable built form.

  • The proposed renovations to the Schofield & Co building creates a framework that directly relates to the hotel with the resultant form a contemporary expression of the guiding principles of the traditional Goondiwindi street colonnades. A strong defined corner form is established with the tower mirrored as signage element. To lift the existing linear appearance a series of carefully articulated forms creates an intervention that delivers a presence much more in keeping with a building located on the iconic street intersection of Marshall and Herbert. The final form is softened with integrated planting and shade screens providing a sustainable temperate street environment.
